New Hampshire – The Granite State

New Hampshire Activities
Well-dispersed around the state, New Hampshire’s State Parks offers a great variety of outdoor activities to choose from. Bear Brook, located in the southern region, covers over 10,000 acres and is the largest State Park in New Hampshire. Swimming, canoeing, cycling, and fishing are just some of the activities on offer, and hikers have over forty miles of trails to cover. You can even try your hand at archery or follow the 20-minute fitness course.
Miller State Park is New Hampshire’s oldest State Park, and is predominately located in Peterborough. It offers a unique paved road all the way to the top of the 2,290ft Pack Monadnock Mountain, which can be driven or walked. Fantastic views await those who reach the top – on clear days views reach as far as the Vermont Hills and the skyscrapers of Boston.
Cardigan State Park, spans over 5,600 acres, and is a great spot for hiking and picnicking, while Umbagog Lake State Park, Cambridge, is a favorite with wildlife followers as large amounts of birds, moose and deer canvas the area and boat rentals are available. There are over 50 other State Parks to choose from in New Hampshire, covering almost every outdoor activity you can imagine.
New Hampshire Scenic Drives
New Hampshire is perfect for scenic road trips, with no less than eight recognized routes around the state. One of the most popular is the Monadnock Region Loop, which takes drivers through the quaint towns of Keene, Marlborough, Peterborough (via Monadnock State Park), Greenfield and Marlow, before returning to the start point.
The Kancamagus Scenic Byway is a 34-mile paved road which climbs to an altitude of nearly 3,000ft through the White Mountains, before slowly descending through some of the State’s most outstanding scenery and fishing and swimming opportunities.
Other options include the 124 mile Lakes Loop, circling Lake Winnipesaukee - New Hampshire’s largest lake.
